“Providing our pharmacy students access to the federal loan programs will significantly help to make their higher education more attainable,” Dunn said. “We’re proud to achieve this critical and important milestone for our CHSU College of Pharmacy students.”
Two Federal Student Loan Programs Available
The university recently learned that Federal Direct Unsubsidized and Federal Direct Grad PLUS Loans are now available for students in the Doctor of Pharmacy program starting in the current academic year.
Current, incoming and prospective pharmacy students can apply through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, using CHSU’s school code, 042814.

Federal Loans for CHSU Medical Students to Come
University officials plan to work with the U.S. Department of Education to determine federal loan program eligibility for students who will attend CHSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. The first class will start in 2020.
“Due to federal requirements, our hope is for our CHSU medical school students to be eligible for federal loan programs sometime during the 2022-2023 academic year,” Dunn said. “Until that time, our medical school students will have private loan options to finance their education.”
The Office of Financial Aid at CHSU can help current, incoming and prospective students learn about their finance options, as well as scholarship opportunities. Office staff can provide assistance in applying for and securing financing for a professional education.
The CHSU College of Pharmacy opened in 2014 and has graduated two classes of Doctor of Pharmacy students to date.
Disclosure: Privately funded CHSU was founded by the Assemi family of Fresno. GV Wire’s publisher, Darius Assemi, is a member of the CHSU board of trustees.
