Keep your umbrella and raincoats handy.
After Fresno tied a 67-year-old rainfall record Sunday with 0.78 inches, the National Weather Service-Hanford forecast calls for more rain before this storm wanes Thursday, followed by the arrival of a new storm on Friday.
In addition, the Sierra Nevada will continue to experience significant snowfall, forecasters said Monday.

Atmospheric River ‘Set up Shop’ in Fresno County
NWS-Hanford attributed the heavy rainfall to an atmospheric river that “decided to set up shop from Fresno County northward into Northern California.”
Heavy rain below 7,000 feet and abundant snowfall above 7,000 feet is expected today. Precipitation amounts will gradually decrease through the end of today.
The forecast also calls for fog in some areas of the Valley beginning on Thursday morning.
Next Storm Approaching From Alaska
Before dry weather returns next week, the NWS-Hanford forecast calls for a low-pressure drop south from the Gulf of Alaska to produce precipitation on late Friday afternoon and extend into Sunday afternoon.

Big Sur Gets Drenched
The NWS-Monterey said that rainfall totals in Big Sur and the Santa Cruz Mountains surpassed 7 inches in 24 hours over the weekend.
Interstate 15 Traffic Jam
Holiday travelers returning to California from the Las Vegas area caused a severe backup lasting for more than 20 miles.
The westbound lanes of Interstate 15 moved at a trickle Sunday as the Thanksgiving holiday weekend wrapped up.
