Minneapolis police have arrested a former Fresno City College and Clovis High School wrestler on sexual misconduct charges.
Dylan Martinez, 21, a member of the University of Minnesota wrestling team, along with a teammate, Gable Steveson, were arrested on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct, according to a Minneapolis police report. The arrests were made after an alleged victim reported Saturday (June 15) night she had been raped and sought treatment at a hospital.

Won at Fresno City

Martinez won two state community college championships for Fresno City College in 2016 and 2017, helping FCC to state titles each year. He was on the powerhouse Clovis High teams that won several state championships.
Martinez, a sophomore with the Minnesota team, redshirted this past season and did not compete. He transferred to the school in January. Steveson, 19, a heavyweight, placed third at this year’s NCAA championships.
According to Hennepin County jail records, Martinez was still in custody as of Monday afternoon.
The alleged attack happened shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, according to the police report, which lacked many details, including the age and sex of the accuser.

Steveson Denies Allegations

Steveson’s attorney, Christa Groshek, said she was shocked by his arrest. She said Steveson had been cooperating with police “because he felt that he didn’t have anything to hide.”
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Martinez has an attorney. Messages left by The Associated Press with several possible relatives were not returned.
The university’s athletics department said in a statement it was “aware of a situation involving two of our student athletes” and that the two were suspended from all team activity pending further information. The statement didn’t identify the athletes or their sport.
Hennepin County prosecutors have until noon Tuesday to charge the two, seek an extension or release them.
The Associated Press contributed to this story.
