The incumbent southeast Fresno representative won a special election in 2016 to fulfill the remaining two years of Sal Quintero’s term after Quintero won a seat on the Fresno County Board of Supervisors.
Chavez formerly represented the area as a Fresno Unified School District trustee and also served as Quintero’s aide.
He faces Paula Yang, who finished as the runner-up in the June primary.
