The friends and family of Dylan Noble, the unarmed man shot and killed by Fresno police last summer, continue to protest his death. About seven protesters gathered in front of the District Attorney’s office Monday afternoon, waiting for answers.
The protesters demonstrated outside Smittcamp’s office while she and other law enforcement held a news conference on an unrelated issue, DUI enforcement. They held signs saying “Justice 4 Dylan” and “Fire Dyer.” Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer also attended the news conference.
Shannon Dalton, Noble’s aunt, was one of the protesters. “We are not going to stop trying to get justice for Dylan. We are not going away until we get it.”
Noble was shot by two Fresno police officers at a gas station at Shields & Armstrong June 25 after being pulled over during the daytime. Fresno police later released body camera video showing the officers order Noble to show his hands dozens of times. Noble refused the commands and was shot four times. He later died of his injuries.
An autopsy later revealed that Noble had traces of cocaine in his system and a blood alcohol content of 0.12, over the legal limit to drive.
The case is being investigated by Fresno police, the district attorney and FBI. The latest Fresno Police Auditor’s report says that the police department’s internal review is not yet complete.
“We will not let Dylan’s name or memory be forgotten. Injustice cannot be tolerated at any level in our city and we won’t let this pass or be silent. The city and local officials have not seen the last of our family,” Dalton said, reading a statement from the family.
When asked to comment about an update to the Noble case, Smittcamp declined.
[Note: the original version stated the gas station was at Shields & Fowler. It is actually closer to Shields & Armstrong.]RELATED TOPICS:
