Citizens’ Statement of Support for Comprehensive Immigration Reform
To be presented to President Donald Trump and Representatives David Valadao, Kevin McCarthy, Jim Costa, Tom McClintock, Devin Nunes and Jeff Denham
The time for common-sense, comprehensive reform of our immigration policy is now. Our nation is facing a crisis. Our policies have ignored those who come here wanting to build a better future, and we are all paying the price of Congress’ inaction.
Make no mistake: We must act and remove violent criminals who are here illegally. Deportation of undocumented immigrants who are otherwise law-abiding is not an option as it would bring severe economic implications, such as an exacerbation of the current labor shortage and collapse of industries like agriculture. Likewise, reform with a framework for legalization and eventual citizenship presents the opportunity for significant growth, both of our tax base and in the private sector. We need policies that encourage foreign innovators and entrepreneurs to take part in the American Dream.
President Trump’s repeal of DACA is the spur Congress needs. We cannot delay a policy with so much potential to improve our country any longer.
We call on Congress to pass an immigration plan that, while taking public safety and adequate border security into account, reinforces our nation’s commitment to those seeking opportunity and success in America.
