Pacific, Gas & Electric personnel are working to restore power after an outage struck the Sierra foothills around Oakhurst and Coarsegold on Tuesday, affecting about 17,000 of the utility’s customers.
The outage struck about 1:55 p.m. and was described by PG&E spokesman Denny Boyles as a “transmission level” event. About 3:25 p.m., Boyles reported that PG&E workers had located “a car vs. pole accident” on a section of a transmission line that had lost power.
As of about 5:30 p.m., about 380 customers still were without service, including about 200 in the Yosemite Lakes area. PG&E estimated that all power would be restored by 6 p.m.
