Two weeks of the closure coincide with the district’s spring break, which is April 6-19.
“We will deep clean classrooms and facilities prior to the reopening of school.” — Central Unified Superintendent Andy Alvarado
“Effective Monday, March 16, we will close all Central Unified Schools and programs and plan to reopen on Monday, April 20,” Alvarado said. “The superintendent and the cabinet, in collaboration with our union group leadership, will be collaborating through next week to finalize plans for our extended closure. We will deep clean classrooms and facilities prior to the reopening of school.”
Alvarado said that teachers have been asked not to assign new school work at this time.
“The district will continue to explore its potential plans for remote learning or enrichment,” Alvarado said.
Free Breakfast, Lunch Programs Will Continue
The superintendent also said that it was ending outside use of district schools immediately.
But, said Alvarado, children between 1 and 18 years old will still be able to pick up free breakfast and lunch at these schools: Biola-Pershing, Polk, Saroyan, Teague, and Tilley elementary schools, and Central High East on Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
