Thinking about going into the mobile food business? Then you might want to attend a mobile vendor summit Monday, Dec. 10, in Fresno.
Cultiva la Salud — a local nonprofit that focuses on health equity and access to food — will hold the summit at the UC Merced Center for Educational Partnerships on East Shaw Avenue.
It will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a free lunch and daycare.

“We wanted to provide a space where people can walk away with information that will be helpful for them in the process of starting a food business.” — Veronica Chávez, organizer of the summit
Promoting small businesses and economic growth is the goal, said Veronica Chávez, the event’s organizer.
“We wanted to provide a space where people can walk away with information that will be helpful for them in the process of starting a food business,” Chávez said.

Subjects Covered

The summit will focus on those wanting to start a cottage business, cooperative, food cart, or food truck, Chávez said.
Prospective business owners can choose from among eight bilingual workshops.
The hour-long workshops will cover marketing strategies, financing, permits, regulations, ordinances, and insurance, among other topics.

Who Will Be There

Representatives from several businesses and organizations will conduct the workshops and answer questions.
Some organizations include Fresno County, the city of Fresno, Fresno State Small Business Development Center, Berkeley Center for Law and Business, and Small Business University.
The summit will also feature a panel of local vendors giving advice and discussing the challenges of starting a business.
Those interested in attending can register at the event at 9 a.m. Chávez is hoping to get a crowd of 50.
“We hope more folks are able to take advantage of opportunities like this to start a small business because we would like to see more healthy foods available in communities than all of the fast foods we have,” Chávez said.
