Paso Robles 'Field of Light' Announces Reopening Date, New Feature

Field of Light at Sensorio in Paso Robles is a 15-acre walk-through expe­ri­ence com­prised of more than 58,800 stemmed spheres lit by fiber optics, “gen­tly illu­mi­nat­ing the land­scape in sub­tle blooms of mor­ph­ing col­or that describe the undu­lat­ing land­scape,” according to its website.

That experience has been muted for months due to the pandemic, but will light up again when it reopens on April 15. Organizers plan to keep it open through September 30.

The site’s new instal­la­tion, Light Tow­ers, cel­e­brates Paso Rob­les’ wine coun­try envi­ronment, fea­tur­ing 69 tow­ers made from more than 17,000 wine bot­tles, illu­mi­nat­ed with glow­ing optic fibers with col­ors that morph to a musi­cal score.

“Pow­ered by solar, these stun­ning exhi­bi­ts cap­ti­vate vis­i­tors, invit­ing them to engage with the land­scape and envi­ron­ment through an ethe­re­al light based and sculp­tur­al expe­ri­ence,” organizers write on the website.

Opening Hours

April – May: Thursdays (7 p.m. – 10 p.m.), Fridays/​Saturdays (7 p.m – 11 p.m.)

JUNE-SEPTEMBER: Thursdays/​Sundays (7 p.m. – 10 p.m.), Fridays/​Saturdays (7 p.m. – 11 p.m.)

To guar­an­tee admis­sion, tick­ets must be pur­chased in advance for a spe­cif­ic date and ​entry time. A lim­it­ed num­ber of walk-up tick­ets are sold on-site begin­ning at 8:30 p.m.

Find tickets by checking this website. The exhibit is located at 4380 Highway 46 East, across from Hunter Ranch Golf Course.

Guests are admit­ted only as oth­ers leave, so that safe spac­ing on site is maintained.

The Future of Sensorio

The Cen­tral Cal­i­for­nia des­ti­na­tion launch­ed in May 2019 with Field of Light. A planned future expansion of the area includes a hotel and con­fer­ence center.
