Marshall Tuck, a candidate for state superintendent of public instruction, sat down with Louis Freedberg and John Fensterwald of EdSource to talk about his vision for California’s public schools.
You can hear the interview in this podcast on EdSource.
In the interview, EdSource notes, Tuck “also responds to the finding in the Getting Down to Facts research project that the understaffed and underfunded (state education) department lacks the capacity to lead statewide school improvement work. And he gives his view on why the race is attracting tens of millions of dollars in contributions, mainly from independent expenditure groups.”
The Battle to Decide California’s Education Future
Tuck, a former charter schools administrator, is running against Assemblyman Tony Thurmond for the state’s top elected public education position. Both are Democrats.
In 2014, Tuck ran for the same position, narrowly losing to incumbent Tom Torlakson.
You can learn more about the candidates, their positions, and their campaign backers in GV Wire’s special report: The Battle to Decide California’s Education Future. The report also provides information about what gubernatorial candidates Gavin Newsom and John Cox would do to improve education.
