The U.S. Postal Service is set to pay tribute to renowned artist and environmentalist Ansel Adams with a series of stamps featuring 16 captivating portraits of the American landscape.

The Ansel Adams Forever stamps feature a pane of 16 images that highlight Adams’ mastery of “straight photography,” characterized by its precision and directness. These stamps showcase some of his most renowned works, capturing scenes from Yosemite National Park, the Sierra Nevada, Denali National Park, and various other landscapes across the American West.

The stamps include iconic images such as “Half Dome, Merced River, Winter, Yosemite National Park, California” (1938), “Tetons and Snake River, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming” (1942), and “Monument Valley, Arizona” (1958), among others. Designed by USPS art director Derry Noyes, these stamps bring to life Adams’ dedication to elevating photography as a fine art form.

The first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony for the Ansel Adams Forever stamps will showcase a selection of photographs captured by Adams throughout his career.

The Dedication Ceremony Details

The dedication ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at 11 a.m. in the Ansel Adams Gallery, 9031 Village Drive in Yosemite National Park. There is no charge to attend, and those interested can follow updates about the stamps using the hashtag #AnselAdamsStamps on social media.

The Honorable Daniel Tangherlini, a member of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors, will preside over the dedication ceremony.

Other notable attendees include Matthew Adams, grandson of Ansel Adams, Cicely Muldoon and Scott Gediman from Yosemite National Park, park ranger Shelton Johnson, and photographer Alan Ross.

The ceremony offers a unique opportunity for admirers of Adams’ work and nature enthusiasts to celebrate his enduring legacy through these stunning stamps that capture the timeless beauty of America’s landscapes.
