Former Clovis West standout Peter Kuest tied for 17th at the John Deere Classic on Sunday, earning $112,850 and special temporary membership on the PGA Tour.

More good news came his way on Monday as he received a sponsor’s exemption into this week’s Barbasol Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The tournament offers a total purse of $3.8 million.

A week before the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois, the Fresno native tied for fourth place at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.

“It’s been a fun two weeks. We just hope to keep it rolling,” Kuest told Amanda Renner, who handles golf interviews for CBS Sports, on Saturday.

After opening the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 67, Kuest moved up the leaderboard with a 6-under-par 65. However, he cooled off Sunday with a par-71 that included six birdies, four bogeys, and a double bogey at TPC Deere Run.

In just five PGA tournaments this season, he has won $667,218. More importantly, he has gone from trying to gain entry into tournaments as a Monday qualifier to earning his temporary card. Kuest has three Top 20 Finishes in his limited appearances.

Kuest is the sixth player to earn special temporary membership this season. He joins Akshay Bhatia, Ryan Gerard, Ryan Fox, Min Woo Lee, and Nicolai Hojgaard.

While at Brigham Young University, Kuest Kuest won 10 tournaments and averaged a school-record low of 69.42 strokes a round during the COVID-abbreviated 2019-2020 season.
