A federal jury convicted prominent Fresno businessman Todd Eric Mumma, 60, of secretly videoing a minor and receiving child pornography on Thursday.

Court officers detained Mumma after the verdict. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 17 by U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Thurston.

Mumma faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years, as well as a fine of up to $250,000 and mandatory restitution to a victim.

U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced Mumma’s conviction in a news release Friday morning.

Mumma Sells His Company Following Arrest

In addition to owning a business technology company, Mumma was well-known for racing stock cars at Madera Speedway and other California tracks. Following Mumma’s arrest, the company was sold to a Southern California firm.

According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Mumma used hidden digital video recording devices in a residence to create sexually explicit images of a minor. He edited recordings on a computer and then transferred the most sexually explicit images onto a cellphone where the images were stored and viewed numerous times.

Sheriff’s Detectives Searched His $1.5 Million Home

Fresno County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Mumma in May 2020 after the execution of a search warrant at his 4,000-square foot, $1.5 million dollar home in the 11000 block of Glen Castle Way in Fresno.

Detectives said that they collected numerous cameras and electronic storage devices containing dozens of pornographic images of children. Detectives also discovered that Mumma had installed hidden cameras in bedrooms and bathrooms throughout his house.

In early 2023, Mumma tried to have the case against him dismissed on grounds that prosecutors lacked sufficient evidence to charge him, but his motion was denied.

Homeland Security Investigations and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office investigated this case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David L. Gappa of the Eastern District of California and Trial Attorney McKenzie Hightower of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section are prosecuting the case.
