Fresno Unified School District students will combine Thursday evening for a special 10th anniversary Black History Month celebration, launching cultural and educational activities organized by Black Student Union clubs across the district this month.

Thursday’s show, “A Trip Down Memory Lane,” will honor and recreate some of the popular performances from the past 10 years as well as the contributions of African American and Black men and women in the nation and world.

Students from across the district have been preparing for months for the show. Its co-host is Purposed II Praise School of Dance.

The show will start at 6 p.m. in the Audra McDonald Theater at Roosevelt High School, 4250 E. Tulare Ave., with a preshow featuring comedian Andre Covington at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are $2 and will be sold only at the door. Doors will open starting at 5 p.m. Admission is free for children age 5 and younger.

All proceeds will support Black Student Union clubs.

“Our Black History Month program is going to be especially great this year as our students and staff look back on 10 years of this wonderful tradition in our district,” Superintendent Bob Nelson said in a news release. “As always, this is a fantastic showcase for our talented students and an opportunity to learn more about Black history and culture.”
