Fresno police believe they’ve solved an early morning stabbing homicide that occurred on the last day of 2023 in a southeast neighborhood.
Lt. Bill Dooley announced on Wednesday afternoon the arrest of Jaime Lopez Reynaga, 30, in the killing of Anthony Sanchez, 39, in the 2400 block of South Sierra Vista Avenue.
Reynaga was already in Fresno County Jail on unrelated charges when officers made the arrest, Dooley said.
Jail records show that Reynaga was previously booked into jail on Jan. 4 for allegedly stealing a vehicle and probation violation.
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at about 2:30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve and found Sanchez badly wounded. He died at Community Regional Medical Center.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact homicide detective Mark Yee at (559) 621-2407.
Tips also may be relayed anonymously to Valley Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867) or this link.
