Storms moving slowly through the San Joaquin Valley could deliver more than an inch of rain from late Saturday night through Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service in Hanford also has issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning Sunday night and extending to Wednesday morning.

Intermittent heavy snowfall and winds up to 50 mph could make mountain travel difficult at times, according to the NWS.

Yosemite Valley, for example, is likely to get at least 8 inches of snow and has a better than 1-in-3 chance of accumulating 30 or more inches, the NWS predicts.

Meanwhile, Shaver Lake is expecting about 1 foot of snow.

China Peak Sets Nov. 12 Opening

China Peak ski resort reported Friday morning that it expects to open on Saturday, Nov. 12, utilizing both natural and machine-made snow.

It is planning to operate on weekends and then stretch to a Friday-through-Sunday schedule with the Thanksgiving holiday.

Highway 180 Seasonal Closure

Caltrans announced this week that Highway 180 will close at Hume Lake Road for the season at noon on Monday, Nov. 14.

Every year, the highway to Sequoia National Park closes for the winter at the Hume Lake cut-off because of potential rockslides. The highway is expected to reopen in late April, weather permitting.
