Margarita Aispuro-Camacho, 46, of Fresno, was arrested Wednesday after a federal grand jury indicted her for illegally selling morphine.

According to court documents, Aispuro-Camacho sold the morphine in May 2020. At the time of the sale, she worked as a clerk for the Internal Revenue Service.

Morphine is a non-synthetic narcotic with a high potential for abuse and is derived from opium. It is legally administered by healthcare providers for the treatment of pain.

Morphine is a Schedule II narcotic under the Controlled Substances Act.

The case follows an investigation by the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Barton is prosecuting the case.
