As brands increasingly lean into internet memes and real-time social media banter as part of their marketing strategies, a Bosnia parody social media account has carved out a notable presence in that space with a steady stream of jokes and commentary directed at creators.

Bosnia fell to the United States 2-0 on Wednesday in the World Cup’s round of 32.

In American internet culture, where the sport is commonly referred to as “soccer” rather than “football,” fans often joke that victories over countries that call it football come with a linguistic victory as well.

A Bosnia satire and parody account had spent days posting memes aimed at the United States, including one that altered the American flag with Bosnia’s colors.

The account has grown to more than 750,000 followers.

Following the loss, the account posted a simple message: “it’s soccer.”

The post quickly circulated online, drawing reactions from fans who praised the tone.

Some users joked that Bosnia was “reaching for that visa,” while others said the account had “won the internet” with the understated response.
