A 19-year-old driver escaped serious injury after a violent rollover crash in Fresno County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP reported Tuesday that the driver was traveling north on Goldenrod Avenue near Belmont Avenue when he drifted off the roadway and lost control of his vehicle.
Investigators said the vehicle cleared a canal before crashing into the opposite embankment, causing the car to flip end over end.
Despite the severity of the crash and extensive damage to the vehicle, the driver walked away with virtually no injuries, CHP said.
Authorities credited the driver’s properly worn seat belt with helping him survive the crash and avoid serious harm.
CHP reminded motorists that seat belts save lives and said the young driver received a second chance because he was wearing his restraint properly.
