A 33-year-old Porterville man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of distributing harmful matter to a minor and communicating with a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense, authorities said.

Detectives with the Porterville Police Department said they received credible information from the Fresno County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that Eric Benito Contreras was communicating with a minor for sexual purposes and sending sexually explicit images.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Contreras and a search warrant for his residence in the 1400 block of North Cottage Street.

The warrants were served about 5:45 p.m., and Contreras was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Contreras was later booked at the TCSO South County Detention Facility and is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
