Clovis police are searching for multiple suspects following a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry store Wednesday evening.

The robbery occurred just before 6:30 p.m. at Kay Jewelers near Herndon and Sunnyside avenues, where officers were dispatched after receiving multiple calls reporting a robbery in progress.

Police said four masked suspects entered the store, prompting employees and customers to run for cover, the Clovis Police Department said in a statement.

According to investigators, two of the suspects used large sledgehammers to smash multiple glass display cases while the others grabbed jewelry. The suspects fled the store in less than two minutes and left the area in a silver sedan.

Responding officers conducted an initial investigation before detectives took over the case. Police later located the abandoned getaway car in a nearby neighborhood, where it is being processed for evidence.

Surveillance video is being reviewed from inside the store, neighboring businesses, the parking lot and surrounding intersections. Detectives are also investigating whether the robbery may be connected to similar crimes elsewhere in the state.

The store is completing an inventory to determine how many pieces of jewelry were stolen. No injuries were reported.
