A longtime Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer in Patrol was killed in a head-on crash Monday morning on Highway 190 in the Springville area, Sheriff Mike Boudreaux announced.

Jack Terrell died in the crash, and his wife, Lucinda Terrell, who also serves as a Volunteer in Patrol, was seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in critical but stable condition, the sheriff’s office said.

Jack and Lucinda Terrell have served as Volunteers in Patrol in the mountain communities since 2005, according to the sheriff’s office. They also previously served on the sheriff’s Search & Rescue Team with their two chocolate-colored Labradors.

In 2023, Boudreaux named Jack Terrell Volunteer of the Year. Lucinda Terrell received the same award the following year.

Boudreaux and members of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office offered their condolences to the family and said they were praying for Lucinda Terrell’s recovery.
