An 81-year-old Visalia man was sentenced Monday to 104 years to life in prison for crimes against children, the Tulare County District Attorney’s office announced.

The court sentenced Richard Bomhard following his conviction on 11 counts of child molestation against a single female minor victim.

A Tulare County jury returned the verdict on Dec. 4, 2025. The crimes were alleged to have been committed between March 2014 and March 2021, prosecutors said.

After his arrest in 2021, Bomhard posted bail and remained out of custody during the trial process. On the day the verdict was read, he failed to appear and again failed to appear at a remand time the next morning, authorities said.

The court issued an arrest warrant, and the Visalia Police Department took Bomhard into custody without incident on Dec. 5, 2025.

In addition to the prison sentence, Bomhard must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
