The California Highway Patrol’s Fresno office on Friday highlighted its role in responding to medical emergencies and pedestrian incidents on and off local freeways, emphasizing care and compassion alongside law enforcement.
In a public message, CHP said officers frequently encounter people experiencing some of the most traumatic moments of their lives and work to communicate, connect and help achieve positive outcomes.
The agency said its role extends beyond enforcing the law, noting that officers adapt to each situation with understanding and compassion, sometimes by providing a calm presence and reassurance.
CHP encouraged anyone experiencing emotional distress, or who knows someone in need of support, to seek help by calling or texting the 988 Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7, or by contacting 211 for social services across much of California.
The agency also urged the public to call 911 if they see a pedestrian on a freeway or in a dangerous situation.
