Iran temporarily closed most of its airspace Wednesday amid nationwide protests and heightened tensions with the United States, according to flight tracking data reported by the New York Post.

A Notice to Air Missions issued by Tehran shortly after 5 p.m. ET barred all flights except international flights entering or leaving Iran with permission, FlightRadar24 reported. The warning was valid for just over two hours, during which only five aircraft were visible over Iranian airspace.

The closure came as President Donald Trump said he was told Iranian authorities were halting executions of anti-government protesters and that U.S. military action was not imminent.

Around the same time, the United Kingdom advised against all but essential travel to Israel.
