In this edition of Wired Wednesday, GV Wire’s Bill McEwen talks with Fox 26 “Great Day” anchor Karl Cooke about California’s weak impaired efforts to cut down on drunk driving.

Drunk driving deaths have risen over 50% statewide, with repeat offenders causing tragedies again and again. In addition, California’s arrests have fallen by 50% over 10 years, and DUI fatalities average 1,300 annually.

A bill to stiffen a law mandate ignition interlock devices was gutted in the Legislature — a missed opportunity to prevent repeat DUI fatalities. Meanwhile, courts consistently allow repeat offenders back on the road, where the pose fatal dangers to themselves and others.

McEwen issued a call to action by Great Day viewers and GV Wire readers.
