The Save Mart Companies is rolling out a new initiative to make food more affordable for families during the holidays at all of their brands.
Save Mart’s Vice President of Marketing, Andy Comer, told GV Wire their “Right by You” campaign would be part of the chain’s mindset extending beyond Thanksgiving and Christmas.
“Affordability is a fundamental responsibility and right now our responsibility and our promise as a brand is really being tested because as everyone has doubtlessly seen and experienced, our customers are facing a lot of pressures,” Comer said.
Holiday Deals Likely to Be Ongoing: Comer
All Thanksgiving staples will also be priced lower for the season, Comer said.
At Save Mart and Lucky, shoppers can get a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people priced at less than $6 a person, including turkey, potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, gravy, rolls, and pie. At FoodMaxx, that price would be less than $5 a person.
A similar deal will be also available for Christmas.
Additionally, a new line of private-label meat — beef, poultry, and pork — will be sold at lower cost. Food nearing its sell by/best by date will be discounted up to 50%.
“The whole objective of that is to offer families really high quality proteins that are minimally processed with no artificial ingredients at prices that make healthier eating accessible, even as meat costs especially are continuing to rise with inflationary pressure,” Comer said.
High beef prices have also caught the eye of President Donald Trump, who said he would import Argentinian beef to help lower prices.
Active service members can also get a 10% military discount on Veterans Day and the following Mondays of November. The discount is 5% at FoodMaxx.
Comer said Save Mart is also expanding access to food. Several options make home delivery easier.
The Save Mart brands will offer home delivery of grocery items through its e-commerce sites for orders of more than $35 for only service fees.
Like other grocery stores, Save Mart is partnering with DoorDash to waive delivery and service fees for people getting SNAP and CalFresh benefits — at least as long as the government shutdown lasts.
It will also offer a “buy now, pay later” option for customers.
New FoodMaxx, Save Mart Locations Are Opening
Private equity firm Jim Pattison Group purchased the Save Mart Companies in June 2025 from Kingswood Capital Management, which bought it in March 2022.
The Modesto-based brand is opening two new FoodMaxx locations this week in Santa Clara and San Jose. Earlier this year, they broke ground on two new Save Marts — one in Tulare and one in Manteca. They also confirmed plans to open one in South Lake Tahoe.
“We don’t see these challenges going anywhere for the foreseeable future. If anything, we (are) scaling and building on these programs,” Comer said. “So while we have kind of gone to market with some plans through the end of the fiscal year, we will be continuing the vast majority, if not all programs, into 2026 because our customers need them.”
