A Barstow woman was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 30, on suspicion of making a bogus bomb threat against a Fresno school, police said.
Officers in Fresno called the Barstow Police Department about 12:45 p.m. to collaborate in the investigation, according to a Barstow Police Department statement.
“Barstow police officers spoke with officers from the Fresno Police Department, who told them that an unknown female caller had made a bomb threat to one of their local schools,” according to the statement.
The Fresno Police Department said Hamilton Elementary School received a call from an unknown person saying there is a threat of a bomb before quickly hanging up.
Police in Fresno confirmed there was no explosive at the school, officials said. They were also able to trace the phone used to make the threat and directed police to an apartment in the 500 block of East Virginia Way.
Nicole Marie Madwell, 33, of Barstow was detained, according to police and San Bernardino County booking records.
“Barstow police officers spoke with Madewell, gathered additional evidence and determined she was the subject responsible for the bomb threat,” the BPD statement said. “Madewell was arrested without incident.”
No apparent motive was disclosed.
Madewell was booked on suspicion of making a false bomb threat, records show.
Bail was set at $30,000 pending an initial court appearance, which was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Victorville branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court.
