The crash happened around 7:37 p.m. when a 30-year-old Oakhurst woman driving a northbound Honda Accord veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Ford Escape driven by a 63-year-old Fresno woman, CHP said.
Both vehicles sustained major damage and came to rest blocking the roadway.
Despite efforts by bystanders and medical personnel, the Ford’s passenger, an 87-year-old Fresno woman, died at the scene.
Both drivers suffered major injuries and were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
