Deputies arrested a man accused of attempting to steal equipment from a Madera County construction site.

On Monday, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft in progress at Vulcan Materials on Highway 145 near Highway 41.

Deputies reported seeing Martin Rushing, 54, driving a skid steer as he tried to flee the scene. According to CAT, similar skid steers typically go up to 11 MPH.

After multiple failed attempts to drive over dirt berms, deputies safely took Rushing into custody at gunpoint.

He was booked on multiple felony charges and faced two outstanding Madera County warrants.
