The Fresno Police Department will conduct a bicycle and pedestrian safety operation on Saturday, targeting driver behaviors who pose risks to people walking or biking.

The enforcement effort will run from noon to 10 p.m. and focus on violations such as speeding, illegal turns, failure to yield to pedestrians or cyclists, and running stop signs or signals.

Officers say the operation aims to address the most common causes of crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists.

The department also reminded drivers and pedestrians to follow safety practices.

Pedestrians are urged to use crosswalks, wear visible clothing, and avoid entering a vehicle’s path.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down at intersections, stop for pedestrians, avoid blocking crosswalks, and never drive impaired.

Bicyclists should follow traffic laws, use bike lights at night, yield to pedestrians, and ride in the direction of traffic.

Funding for the operation is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
