A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stabbing and killing his son during a disturbance outside an apartment complex near Cedar and Shaw avenues, police said.

Officers responded to the scene at 4:47 p.m., where they found Javoeea Blackman, 25, lying outside the front door of the building with a stab wound to the chest, the Fresno Police Department said in a statement.

First responders provided aid and transported him to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Javoeea’s father, Bryan Blackman, 52, initially told officers his son had been banging on his front door and causing a disturbance. When asked how Javoeea was injured, Bryan claimed not to know, according to police.

Homicide detectives launched an investigation and, after gathering evidence at the scene, transported Bryan to Fresno Police Department Headquarters for questioning.

During the interview, police say Bryan admitted to stabbing his son during the confrontation.

He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of murder.
