Gov. Gavin Newsom is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the 2022 killing of a man on tribal land in Kings County, his office announced Friday.

On March 25, 2022, deputies with the Kings County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched near Saltgrass and Yokut roads, where Scott Emerson Jeff, 52, was found unresponsive with a stab wound.

Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but Jeff was pronounced dead at the scene, the Kings County Sheriff’s Office said in their original statement.

Scott Emerson Jeff

Jeff was a tribal elder in the Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi Tribe.

The sheriff’s office requested a reward from the governor’s office in hopes of generating new leads in the unsolved case.

Anyone with information about Jeff’s murder is urged to contact Sgt. Chris Martin at (559) 852-2886. Anonymous tips may be submitted by email or by calling (559) 852-4554.
