More than a thousand people gathered Saturday near Shaw Avenue and Fresno Street to protest President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and what organizers described as harmful administration policies.
The demonstration was part of a global protest organized by the group “Hands Off!” aimed at pressuring Trump and Musk to stop their involvement in key social programs and government operations.
Flyers promoting the Fresno event urged officials to “keep your hands off” Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, medical research, and other critical services.
According to the group’s website, the protest was billed as a response to “the most brazen power grab in modern history,” accusing Trump, Musk, and their billionaire allies of attacking the government, economy, and individual rights.

Chants of “a country divided cannot be united” and “fire Donald Trump” echoed through the crowd while they marched down Fresno Street to Shaw Avenue.
Drivers passing by either honked in support or shouted in opposition as they encountered the protesters lining the street.
Speakers addressed topics ranging from immigration policies and tariffs impacting the stock market to fears over proposed cuts to federal safety net programs.
One protester told GV Wire this was the first political event they had attended since Trump’s second term began, citing the need to delete social media due to frustration with the government.
An event organizer said multiple groups, including the 50501 movement — known for staging other Fresno demonstrations — were represented. One organization reported nearly 1,000 people had registered to participate through their individual registration form.
Protesters warned that the country is in a state of crisis, with democracy and essential rights under threat. They criticized policies they say benefit the wealthy while leaving working-class Americans to grapple with rising costs for rent, food, and healthcare.
They also accused financial institutions of exploiting vulnerable communities amid loosening protections and claimed marginalized groups — including veterans, seniors, immigrants, transgender individuals, and political opponents — are being targeted.
