A new statewide notification system lets Californians know when and where pesticides will be applied.
People who sign up for the California Department of Pesticide Regulation’s SprayDays California will get phone calls and text messages before pesticides get sprayed on fields near them, according to a news release from the agency.
“Managing pests — such as insects, rodents and weeds — is vital for protecting public health, the environment, the stability of our food supply, and maintenance of our infrastructure,” said DPR Director Karen Morrison. “SprayDays California was developed through extensive public engagement to improve access to information and enhance understanding of California’s strong pesticide regulatory framework.”
Searchable Map Shows Where Pesticides Will Be Sprayed
An interactive map shows when restricted pesticides get used throughout California. Details also include the product name, active ingredients, application methods, and the number of treated acres.
Website visitors can also anonymously search for scheduled applications within a specific area.
For growers, the only change is electronically notifying the state about pesticide applications.
