A Fresno man was sentenced Monday to 10 years in federal prison after authorities found 107 pounds of fentanyl and 39 pounds of cocaine hidden in his vehicle during a traffic stop, prosecutors said.

Carlos Jordan Lopez, 29, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Thurston for possession with intent to distribute about 107 pounds of fentanyl and 39 pounds of cocaine, Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith announced.

Lopez was pulled over on Sept. 8, 2023, while driving northbound on Interstate 5 near Shields Avenue in Fresno County, according to court documents.

A search of his trunk uncovered a spare tire packed with 28 packages containing about 485,000 fentanyl pills, as well as a bag with 18 bricks of cocaine powder, authorities said.

The case was investigated by the California Highway Patrol, the California High Impact Investigation Team, the FBI, and the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors Justin Gilio and Dennis Lewis handled the case.
