A grassroots movement, We Are California, is leading a statewide week of action to protest proposed federal budget cuts that threaten essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP, which millions of families, children, seniors, and people with disabilities rely on, the group said in a news release.

The week-long campaign, which spans from San Diego to the Bay Area, will make a stop in Fresno on Thursday, with a noon demonstration at the southwest corner of the Walmart Supercenter parking lot.

Three weeks ago, House Republicans at the urging of President Donald Trump passed a budget blueprint with $4.5 billion in tax breaks and $2 million in spending cuts primarily aimed at safety-net programs such as Medicaid and SNAP, which is more commonly known as food stamps.

Trump labeled it his “big, beautiful bill,” while Democrats described it as “trickle down economics” for billionaires created at the expense of poor and middle-class Americans.

The rally is part of a broader initiative to urge California’s lawmakers to reject budget proposals that slash funding for crucial community safety net programs, the organizers said.

Throughout the week, community members and organizations from across California are said to rally at various locations, including the offices of Congressmembers and Elon Musk-owned companies, to demand lawmakers protect funding for programs like Medicaid and SNAP.

Demonstrators are highlighting the direct impact the budget cuts would have on vulnerable populations, including seniors, people with disabilities, and families struggling to afford healthcare, food, and housing.

Organizers are calling on Californians to contact their representatives and urge them to protect vital programs that support millions of people across the state.
