President Donald Trump is reportedly contemplating a new travel ban that could affect citizens from up to 43 countries.
This potential expansion of his first-term policy, which primarily targeted Muslim-majority nations, has been outlined in an internal memo obtained by major news outlets.
According to the memo, countries would be categorized into three tiers: red, orange, and yellow. The 11 “red” countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, and Syria, would face a complete entry ban. “Orange” countries like Russia and Pakistan would see heavily restricted visas, while “yellow” nations would have 60 days to address U.S. concerns or risk reclassification.
When asked about potential target countries during a recent press briefing, Trump responded, “Wouldn’t that be a stupid thing for me to say?”
The White House has not yet officially commented on the reported memo.
Trump’s campaign promises included reinstating the travel ban, which he initiated in his first term but was later repealed by former President Joe Biden. On January 20, 2025, Trump signed an executive order calling for a report on countries with deficient vetting and screening information, due within 60 days.
“Remember the famous travel ban? We didn’t take people from certain areas of the world,” Trump said at a campaign event in September 2024. “We’re not taking them from infested countries.”
This potential new ban is part of Trump’s broader efforts to tighten U.S. immigration and visitation policies in his second term.
