Fresno’s string of spring-perfect 70-degree days is about to end.

Thanks to a ridge of high pressure coming to the western United States, Fresno temperatures are expected to hit 88 degrees on Thursday, says the National Weather Service in Hanford.

The weekend forecast is even warmer, with Saturday’s high pegged at 96 degrees and Sunday’s temperature reaching 98 degrees.

There’s also a chance that Fresno could eclipse the 100-degree mark on Sunday and Monday, according to some forecasts.

As for the remainder of next week, look for temps in the low to mid-90s.

Local Reservoirs Kept Low in Anticipation of Snowmelt

The warmup extends to the Sierra as well. The low temperatures are expected to be above freezing at Shaver Lake beginning today and at Huntington Lake starting midweek.

In preparation for the melt of the huge Sierra snowpack, dams are being kept at low capacity on the San Joaquin, Kings, and Kaweah rivers.

On Monday, Friant Dam was at 28% capacity and Pine Flat was at 38%. Terminus Dam was at 19%. Instead of increasing storage at these reservoirs, which often is the goal this time of year, water is being released into riverbeds and canals below.

However, Success Dam in Porterville, which is on the Tule River, was at 75% capacity on Monday. And, Isabella Dam on the Kern River, was at 61%.
