The Fresno State men’s basketball team made history Tuesday night in San Diego, but it was history they’d rather bury in the record books.

The Bulldogs fell, 83-60, to San Diego State, dropping to 5-22 overall and 1-15 in the Mountain West Conference.

It was Fresno State’s ninth straight defeat under first-year coach Vance Walberg, and the team’s 22 losses are a school record.

The Bulldogs finished 12-21 last season under coach Justin Hutson, tying the previous record for most losses set in 2008-09 under Steve Cleveland.

Scoring Leaders

Nicholas Boyd led the Aztecs (18-6, 11-4) with 19 points and had seven assists.

Fresno State turnovers led to 20 San Diego points, and the Aztecs commanded the backboards with a 35-to-21 rebound edge.
Jalen Weaver led the Bulldogs with 16 points, and Alex Crawford contributed 15 points.

San Diego State took the lead less than a minute into the game and never relinquished it.

Up Next

Fresno State plays at Air Force on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated the Falcons, 74-65, on Jan. 17 at the Save Mart Center. Air Force is winless in the Mountain West and 3-23 overall.
