Kings County Fire Captain Mark Eads, 62, passed away Saturday evening after responding to a fire call in Avenal, the Kings County Fire Department said in a statement.
Eads, along with his engineer, arrived near the intersection of Skyline Boulevard and Central Avenue to investigate smoke in a structure.
During the incident, he suffered a medical emergency and was transported to Coalinga Hospital, where he died.
Eads began his career with Kings County in 2003 as a Fire Apparatus Engineer, leaving briefly in 2004 before returning in February 2005.
He was promoted to Fire Captain in 2021 and served the community for over 20 years.
Kings County honors his dedication and service.
