On Friday, 11 people were arrested for driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint held at Clinton and Weber avenues from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m, the Fresno Police Department said in a Monday statement.

During the operation, 28 drivers were cited for operating vehicles without a valid or suspended/revoked license, while 353 vehicles were contacted overall.

DUI checkpoints are strategically placed based on data from previous impaired driving-related crashes, with the goal of enhancing public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roads, authorities said.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Another DUI checkpoint is scheduled for December 28, 2024.
