Federal authorities have charged two Fresno women with fentanyl trafficking.

Armed with search warrants, officers searched Genevra Kaye Winton’s residence on March 2 and subsequently charged her and Shannon Bargas, 51, with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl pills.

Winton additionally was charged with being a felon in possession of a gun, and Bargas was charged with distributing fentanyl pills.

U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced the arrests and charges in a news release on Monday.

Both women are in Fresno County Jail with bail yet to be set.

If convicted, Winton and Bargas face lengthy prison sentences and fines of up to $1 million.

The case stems from an investigation by FORT, a team focused on investigating fentanyl overdose cases. It is composed of officers from Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Fresno Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin J. Gilio is prosecuting the case.
