The weekend lineup of events in the Central Valley will offer a great variety for all ages and interests.

The selection includes basketball, tacos, magic, and concerts, and the vibes will continue on Veterans Day.

Fresno State Men’s Basketball vs Sacramento State

The Fresno State men’s basketball team hosts Sacramento State at the Save Mart Center on Friday for the season opener. This will be the debut of Bulldogs head coach Vance Walberg.

The roster has 14 new players with only two returners being senior guard Jalen Weaver and junior forward Pierre Geneste Jr. Walberg is implementing his trademark dribble-drive offense into the playbook. Walberg is well known to the Red Wave thanks to his championship coaching stints with Clovis West High School and Fresno City College.

Taco Truck Throwdown

Chukchansi Park will host the Taco Truck Throwdown this Saturday. The annual event will feature music from Larry June, Coyote, Los Del Puerto, wrestling from Lucha Xtreme, and more. There’ll be over 2-dozen trucks serving tacos, salsa, and micheladas.

Adding to the vibe is the Cigar Lounge, presented by Cigar Mas Fino, and booths from a variety of local vendors from Vendor Village. Competitions will be taking place with the Michelada Throwdown and Salsa Throwdown. The party is expected to go until after midnight.

Danny Go!

Danny Go!, the live-action educational childrenā€™s show, will entertain the Saroyan Theatre this Monday.Ā Created in 2019, the production has taken the internet by storm with over 1.1M YouTube Kids subscribers.

The show is designed to inspire learning, movement, and fun for kids ages 3 to 7. With music, dance, and plenty of silliness, this engaging show encourages off-the-couch exercise and education.

‘Drive Back’ Special Screening

Regal Fresno Riverpark will host a special screening of the local horror film “Drive Back” on Thursday. There’ll be two showings at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Included is a Q&A session with the filmmakers after each screening.

The film was directed by first time director and Clovis resident Cody Ashford. It was filmed in Yosemite and Clovis. It’s produced by Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing, the filmmakers from Tremendum Pictures that made the independent hit “The Gallows” that was also shot in the Central Valley.

The next day the film will be released on streaming services like Apple TV and Amazon.

The Magic of Michael Grandinetti

Make yourself disappear to the Visalia Fox Theatre this Friday to witness The Magic of Michael Grandinetti. Named by Entertainment Weekly as ā€œa great magicianā€ and Forbes as ā€œa top modern magician,ā€ he’s an in-demand entertainer that has performed on national and international television, for NFL and NBA halftime shows, Fortune 500 companies, including The White House.

He’s been featured on shows like NBCā€™s ā€œThe Worldā€™s Most Dangerous Magic II,ā€ the CWā€™s ā€œMasters of Illusion,ā€ POPā€™s ā€œDonā€™t Blink,ā€ ā€œBones,ā€ ā€œThe Today Show,ā€ ā€œAccess Hollywood,ā€ ā€œEntertainment Tonight,ā€ ā€œSportsCenterā€ and ā€œThe Bold and the Beautiful.ā€ In 2013, Michael was honored to be the first illusionist ever invited to perform in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington DC.

A master illusionist, his show includes levitation, teleportation, mind reading, and other mind-bending tricks that has captivated audiences all over the world.

Slice of Comedy Headlining Matt Cole, Friday

Stand-up comedian Matt Cole will perform Friday at DiCiccoā€™s in Old Town Clovis. Cole has performed regularly at the Brea Improv, The Ice House, The Comedy Store, Jimmy Kimmelā€™s, and Wiseguys comedy clubs. He has opened for notable acts like Steve Simeone, Cory and Chad (The Smash Brothers), Steve Trevino, and Ralphie May.

Kearney Park Renaissance Faire, Saturday-Sunday

The Renaissance Faire returns to Kearney Park on Saturday and Sunday. There’ll be jousting and pumpkins flying across the whole faire from a 20-foot-tall trebuchet. Shop the many vendors, drink the ale, try the mead and whiskey tasting with two stages of world class entertainment.

Clovis Tailgate Barbecue Throwdown, Saturday

Join Grill Masters for their Annual Clovis Tailgate Barbecue Throwdown at the Clovis Elks Lodge on Saturday. Enjoy drinks, face painting, balloon animals, and live music. For those competing in the Barbecue Throwdown there will be prizes.

Smile Empty Soul, Friday

Smile Empty Soul will rock Full Circle Brewing Co. on Friday. They’re a rock band from Los Angeles. They’ve had three very successful singles and videos, and a gold record from their debut release. They’ve been an independent act for most of their career.

Golden Road Festival, Friday – Sunday

The 2024 Golden Road Festival takes place at Wonder Valley Ranch Resort in Sanger from Friday to Sunday. Three days and nights of live music with an entertaining lineup for the whole weekend. There’ll be lodging, gourmet meals, full open bar, late night munchies, snacks and activities.

Fall Harvest Wine Journey, Saturday-Sunday

The Fresno County Fall Harvest Wine Journey returns this Saturday and Sunday where you’ll visit 14 wineries, two breweries and a distillery. There’ll be tastings at each location. Explore the best of Fresno Countyā€™s locally crafted wines, beers, and spirits. Wineries will be in full fall celebration mode with live music, local vendors, and mouth-watering food.

Fresno State Baseball vs. Sacramento State, Monday

The Mountain West Champion Diamond ‘Dogs take the field this Monday against Sacramento State at Bob Bennett Stadium. The Red Wave will get a chance to preview the 2025 baseball team. The fall game is open to the public and admission is free.

Steven is a multifaceted artist, working as a filmmaker, writer, photographer, videographer, and published author. He has a profound passion for movies, comic books, and rock ā€˜nā€™ roll.
