Sheriff’s deputies have arrested one juvenile in connection with shots fired Wednesday afternoon near McLane High School and are searching for a second suspected shooter.
In a Thursday morning news release, Fresno County Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said that no one was struck by bullets in the shooting, which he described as apparently being gang-related.
The arrested 16-year-old student was booked into juvenile hall on multiple felony charges, Botti said.
“Deputies continue to follow leads (and have) developed information about a possible second boy armed with a gun. He has not yet been captured,” Botti said.
He said that additional officers and law enforcement resources are stationed at the school to ensure the safety of McLane High students.

Threats Posted Online
In addition, Fresno police are investigating threats to McLane High posted on social media.
On Wednesday, dispatchers received reports of gunfire near the AutoZone store at Clinton and Cedar avenues in Fresno. They found no gunshot victims but said that bullets struck a parked vehicle and a building.
The disturbance stemmed from a confrontation involving a large group of students. Witnesses provided descriptions of the individuals involved, including the gunman.

Justin Garza High School Put on Lockdown
Fresno Police Department spokesman Lt. Bill Dooley said Thursday morning that Justin Garza High School was temporarily put on lockdown while officers served search warrants in the 6500 block of West Ashlan Avenue.
During the warrant search, there was a short standoff with a suspect before he was arrested, Dooley said.
He emphasized that the school lockdown was ordered “only due to the proximity of the search warrant — there was never any direct threat to the school or students.”
