Google is rolling out new parental controls for Android devices, allowing parents to limit their children’s internet and phone usage during school hours.
The “School time” feature, initially launched on Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatches, is now expanding to select Android phones, tablets, and Samsung Galaxy watches.
“School time” restricts access to certain apps and limits calling and messaging capabilities during specified hours. Parents can configure these settings through the Family Link app, creating a dedicated home screen with only parent-approved apps accessible.
According to Google, the feature isn’t limited to school hours and can be activated at any time. “Over the next year, we’ll bring School time to even more devices including select Android phones, tablets, and Samsung Galaxy Watches,” the company stated.

Feature Offers Flexibility for Learning and Leisure
While similar to existing screen time limits, “School time” offers more flexibility by allowing access to specific apps that may be necessary for schoolwork or limited entertainment during breaks.
Google also announced upcoming changes to YouTube, enabling parents to link their children’s accounts to their own for better oversight of viewing habits.
The exact setup process and list of supported devices remain unclear, but this new feature represents Google’s ongoing efforts to provide parents with more control over their children’s digital experiences.
