A Fresno man is set to be booked for murder and attempted murder after his longtime girlfriend broke up with him, police said.

On Monday evening, Fresno police found Devin McNew, 26, on the ground with severe blunt-force trauma and multiple stab wounds. A 26-year-old woman was also found with blunt-force trauma to her head, and a third individual, Jonathan Navarro, 26, had a large self-inflicted laceration to his wrist.

Detectives determined that Navarro and the woman had recently ended their 10-year relationship. She and McNew, her new boyfriend, had driven to the location to drop off property belonging to Navarro. Navarro allegedly stabbed McNew multiple times and struck both McNew and the woman with a large garden shovel, authorities said.

The three were transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where McNew was pronounced dead. The woman and Navarro are expected to survive.

Navarro will be booked into Fresno County Jail on charges of murder and attempted murder once discharged from the hospital, police said.
