Seven major U.S. labor unions, representing about 6 million workers, have called on President Joe Biden to “immediately halt all military aid to Israel,” The Guardian reports.

In a letter sent ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit, the unions highlighted their objections to American tax dollars financing the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The unions involved include the Association of Flight Attendants, American Postal Workers Union, International Union of Painters, National Education Association, Service Employees International Union, United Auto Workers, and United Electrical Workers.

“Our unions are hearing the cries of humanity as this vicious war continues,” said Mark Dimondstein, APWU president. “Working people and our unions are horrified that our tax dollars are financing this ongoing tragedy. We need a ceasefire now, and the best way to secure that is to shut off US military aid to Israel.”

The letter criticizes the continued violence in Gaza, despite Biden’s three-part ceasefire plan announced in May 2024. It stresses the toll on Palestinian civilians and the worsening humanitarian crisis, calling for decisive action to end the war by stopping US military aid.

This appeal comes as activists plan protests in Washington, D.C., during Netanyahu’s visit on Wednesday, urging an end to US aid to Israel.
