The California High-Speed Rail Authority announced the completion of two high-speed rail overcrossings in Fresno County on Monday.

The Mountain View Avenue and the Floral Avenue grade separations are open to traffic.

Construction began in 2023 on the structures built by contractor Dragados-Flatiron Joint Venture.

The Mountain View Avenue grade separation is between Cedar and Peach avenues.

Here’s a look at the Mountain View Avenue project by the numbers:

  • 368 feet long
  • 40 feet wide
  • 1,600 cubic yards of concrete
  • 4,000-plus pounds of steel
  • 16 pre-cast concrete girders manufactured at the DFJV pre-cast facility in Hanford.

“Grade separations are important to ensure safety around the surrounding communities during future operations,” said Garth Fernandez, Central Valley Regional Director for CHSRA, in a news release. “They eliminate existing at-grade crossings, improving safety for vehicular traffic while also reducing traffic congestion and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from idling vehicles.”

The Floral Avenue grade separation is between Cedar and Chestnut avenues.

Here’s a look at the Floral Avenue project by the numbers:

  • 381 feet long
  • 40 feet wide
  • 1,600 cubic yards concrete
  • 4,000-plus pounds of steel
  • 16 pre-cast concrete girders manufactured at the DFJV pre-cast facility.

Construction progresses daily on the high-speed rail project between Madera and Tulare counties, officials said. The authority has begun work to extend the 119 miles under construction to 171 miles of future electrified high-speed rail from Merced to Bakersfield.

There are more than 25 active construction sites in California’s Central Valley, with the authority having also fully environmentally cleared 422 miles of the high-speed rail program from the Bay Area to Los Angeles County.
